1936 Ford Five Window Coupe Street Rod Restoration

November and December: The First Two Months

My plan for this car is to get everything cleaned up, finish the interior, and get her mechanically sound before next summer.

Interior Panels

First things first some of the interior panels were never mounted to the car, and have become deformed over the eight years in storage.  As you can see from my high tech solution,  I was able to add a little weight, and have gravity slowly restore the two rear side panels to their proper shape.  However, the weight of the rear speakers bent the rear back panel to almost at a 90 degree angle. I don't think the rear panel is useable, we will see, only time will tell.

Interior Floor

The carpet was destroyed by a battery leak, so the whole interior had to come out. I found the brake master cylinder under the drivers seat half in the cockpit, and completely open to the out side world, as seen in the photo below.  I made a steel box to serve as a removable lid, to seal the cockpit, and allow access to refill the master cylinder when needed, see rough fit photo below.

Sound Proofing The Floor

I was only able to drive this car for maybe two hours at the most before putting it away for the winter.  The first thing you notice when driving her is the tire noise from the 33 inch slicks. Hopefully HushMat will solve this noise problem, as you can see I have covered the whole floor with the sound damping product. I guess we will have to wait until spring to see if it was worth it.

Aluminum Parts Restoration

I thought the aluminum wheels and engine were corroded beyond repair. However, after a little Mothers brand aluminum cleaner and a lot of polishing, WOW!  See before and after photos below.
